To be a good dad you also need the willingness to listen, the skill to truly hear and the ability to related deeply with your wife and children. (p. 145)
  1. When you and your wife are having a conversation and she suddenly says, “You’re not listening,” what does she mean?
  2. What are the characteristics of good listening?
  3. What are some behaviors that prevent a person from being a good listener?
  4. What do you need to do to be able to understand “the deeper message behind a person’s words” (p. 150)? What does it require of you?
  5. Read Proverbs 19:20 – “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”
  6. Either we are going closer over time, generating one more understanding and more empathy toward our wife and children, or are we growing farther away from them” (p. 151). How have you experienced the truth of this in your family?
