PAMILYA MUNA PILIPINAS LAUNCHES SHEPHERDS’ FAMILY CARE PROGRAM

Manila, Philippines: Family First Philippines in partnership with Philippines Without Orphans launched its initial Shepherds’ Care Program with the Marikina Valley Ministerial (a city east of Manila) with more than 40 pastors, missionaries (and with their wives) in attendance. It was hosted by Cornerstone Church in the city. The first program done was a Be A Better Dad Today Seminar-Workshop facilitated by Rev. Mike Menez, senior pastor of Heritage Christian Church and serves as executive board of Baptist Bible College-Asia, who himself is a father of 3 teens.

The idea was started with a simple conversation between the president of Philippines Without Orphans, Robby de Luzurriaga and PMP President Glenn Yu. PWO mission is: “To prevent and remediate orphanhood by educating, equipping, and activating every Filipino in a national movement for permanent families” which is very much in line with PMP’s vision and mission of strengthening families. Both organizations felt that there is a need to prevent orphanhood and it can be addressed by strengthening the family.  Another purpose of PWO is to place orphans in families that would care for them. But then these families should also be strong and healthy who will ensure the welfare of these orphans. Thus, the idea was to start with the churches and ask them to consider “fostering or even adopting” orphans.

One particular family that has not been ministered to is the families of the pastors. Pastors are fathers (mothers) as well and they minister to families within their congregation. But who is ministering to these pastors?  Ambassador Gregory Slayton said in his book, Be A Better Dad Today, "There are no successful Lone Ranger dads - you need the support of friends and older role models from whom you can learn." And PMP and PWO would like to encourage and let the pastors know that we care and are concerned with them. PWO and PMP wants to shepherd the shepherds through equipping and educating them to live a ministry-life balance in order that they can serve their own families first and foremost. And as they are encouraged (including their families) they will be able to minister more effectively the families God has entrusted to them in their churches.

And because of the success of this first Shepherd’s Care Program, PMP and PWO is invited to conduct the “Be A Better Dad Today” Seminar-Workshop for the Olongapo City Christian Ministerial Association.

Some quotes from pastors:
"Good to see specific areas I missed out, these are opportunities for improvement for me and encourages me to achieve the Family Vision I started writing.”

"I am blessed attending this seminar. I learned a lot & as a soon to be 'father' I am excited to put into practice the gems of this seminar."

"The seminar have greatly enhanced good fatherhood practice that is biblically based - the ten tools is so helpful."

"This kind of seminar is unique and can provide help for all the Dads who wanted to be better dads in this generation. It's very effective and I see that God’s grace is available for all parents."

“What the facilitator is saying hurts because it is the truth. It breaks the heart and made me realize that my very first disciples should be my family.”
