Spirit Powered Self-Discipline

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:25-27

Self control generally refers to our ability to control or restrain ourselves from all kinds of feelings, impulses, and desires, which includes the desire for physical and material comfort. It is important to understand that self-control is a work of the Holy Spirit, not a work of the individual. We will be more victorious in our Christian walk when we exercise our Spirit-given self-control, that which helps us respond in obedience to the commands of Scripture and allows us to grow in our spiritual life.

Prayer for the day:

Lord, You are the Anchor & Finisher of my faith. Thank You for adding virtue and knowledge to my life. Thank You for filling me with Your Spirit that gives me grace and power to help me from walking in the flesh. Help me to develop self-control in my life so that I can keep my body under subjection to my spirit to grow in the knowledge of You. Guide me to focus and work diligently so that others may see Your power and glory working through me. I will delight in Your Word daily and allow You to flourish me physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. This I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
